Tripping hazards on the floor – rubbish, equipment, cables, tables, chairs, prams

Attendees or staff may trip over  

Good housing keeping – brush up regularly, use a bin for any rubbish. Ensure all equipment is tidied away between courses/workshops when not in use. Keep any cables out of walking paths and tape onto floor if required. Ensure areas are well lit. Ensure tables and chairs are stacked safely. Keep any prams to the side of the space so they are not in the way.

Wooden floor getting wet and becoming slippery. Products, food or drink may get on the floor and make it slippery.

Mat on floor at the entrance to dry feet. Any spillages to be cleaned up with mop or cloth.

Wall fixtures to become loose and fall

Attendees or staff may be injured if a wall fixture falls onto them

Ensure fire extinguisher is well secured. Ensure mirrors, wall decorations or shelving are well secured to the wall.

Attendees or staff may burn themselves if they touch the hot radiator

Ensure all attendees and staff are aware when the heating is on so they can keep away from the radiators

Fire extinguisher in the premises. Emergency lighting at fire escapes. Fire escapes to be kept clear of any furniture or equipment. Make fire assembly point known. Keys to be available at all times to open windows or doors when necessary. All electrical items to be switched off when not in use. All electrical items to be pat tested. Fire alarms to be working. Staff to ensure all attendees are out of the premises. Don’t use any open flames e.g. candles.
